How To Move Apps To Sd Card On Nvidia Shield Tv

  • #1
I've tried following instructions here for other Android devices... I've tried following directions on the Nvidia site.
None of the apps have a "Move to SD card" selection... Nor can I find any of them when I go to the data folders. There's no folder I can find that is named "Game of War" such that I can cut and paste from internal to SD.
I am sick of not having enough room for games and stuff! How do I move stuff like Game of War to the SD card AND have future downloaded games from Google Play Games go straight to the SD card... I have 120 freaking gigs of SD memory and the stupid tablet just downloads to internal storage

Well that is up to the manufacturers. Short of say rooting the device, which I am not a fan or promoter of as it can do to much damage.

I do get the point of encoding the SD card when you convert it though. So no one can take it out of the device and use it/access the data. The owner always has the option of moving the data to the actual "Internal" storage of the device and then converting the SD card back to "External" storage.

Did you try the following, and if so, and it didn't work, then you probably can't make the change. You can, however, move things like photos, music, videos, etc., to the SD card. They take up quite a bit of room as well, and that will free up some space on the tablet. I would also consider uninstalling anything you rarely use and clearing out the cache of things you don't need. Like say on the browser.

First, you need to be using a tablet that is running at least Android "Marshmallow" (or newer) or be able to upgrade to it. Second, you will need the instructions I am including below. And third, you need a phone that has not been restricted by the manufacturer from making this change. Which does happen.

NOTE: If any of the steps are missing on your tablet, or they don't work for you, then you have a tablet that either has an older Android version or has been restricted by the manufacturer.

How to turn the "External" SD card into "Internal" storage on "Marshmallow".

NOTE: Please be sure you start with a blank SD card. It needs to be blank because when the card is converted to "Internal" storage, it will be formatted (wiped) and encoded (making the cards data only readable by that device).

1. Go to device "Settings", then select "Storage".
2. Select your "SD Card", then tap the "three-dot menu" (top-right), now select "Settings" from in there.
3. Now select "Format as internal", and then "Erase & Format".
4. Your SD Card will now be formatted as internal storage.
5. Reboot your tablet.

NOTE: If you don't reboot the tablet, many things may not work correctly, so make sure you do.

How to turn the "External" SD card into "Internal" storage on "Nougat".

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure you start with a blank SD card. When the card is converted to "Internal" storage, it will be formatted (wiped) and encoded (making the cards data only readable by that device), so anything on it prior would be gone.

1. Go to "Settings", and then select "Storage & USB".
2. At the bottom of the list you should see the SD card's details, including the option to format it and make it "Internal" storage.
3. Once this is done, reboot the device and you can start running things from the card.

If you don't reboot the tablet, some things may not work correctly, so make sure you do the reboot.

Yeah, when the option came up months ago, I chose no, because I didn't want system files being put on the SD card (they said specifically that this WOULD happen) ... I want the ability to remove my SD card and replace it in the future without completely [watch your language] my tablet.
There HAS to be a better way.
